Troubleshoot common connectivity issues"

If you are having trouble reaching your server in our Accra Hub, it doesn't always mean the server is down. Connectivity issues can happen at the network, firewall, or local ISP level. Follow this checklist to find and fix the problem fast.

1. Check the Server Status in Your Panel
Log in to your dashboard at coli.com.gh.
  • Is the status "Running"? If it says "Stopped" or "Suspended," simply click the Start button.
  • Check for Billing Issues: If an invoice is overdue, your VPS/VDS may be automatically suspended by the system.
2. Test the Network (Ping Test)
Open your computer’s terminal or command prompt and type: ping your_server_ip
  • If you get a response: The server is online, and the issue is likely with your SSH/RDP login credentials or your server’s internal firewall (like UFW or Windows Firewall).
  • If you get "Request Timed Out": There might be a block on your local network or a routing issue between your ISP and our Accra data center.
3. Use the VNC Console (The "Emergency" Access)
If you have accidentally locked yourself out via firewall or SSH settings, use the VNC Console in your CoLi Link dashboard.
  • The VNC console acts like a monitor plugged directly into your server. It works even when SSH or RDP fails.
  • Log in via VNC to check your firewall settings or restart network services.
4. Check for Regional Fiber Maintenance
Because we are directly peered to Nigeria and South Africa, we sometimes undergo scheduled maintenance on regional fiber links to improve performance.
  • Check our Announcements page to see if there is ongoing work on the subsea cables or the Accra-Lagos backbone.
5. Common Solutions for West African Users
  • MTN/Telecel/Glo Users: Sometimes local ISPs have temporary routing issues. Try connecting via a different network or a VPN to see if the server becomes reachable.
  • Port 22 (SSH) / Port 3389 (RDP): Ensure these ports are not blocked by your office or home router’s security settings.
Still can’t connect?
If you’ve followed these steps and still can’t reach your server, please open a Technical Support Ticket. Include your IP address and the results of a Traceroute so our engineers can assist you quickly.
