Managing DNS Settings and Custom Nameservers
After registering or transferring your domain to CoLi Link, the next step is "pointing" it to your server. This is done through DNS (Domain Name System). Whether you are using our shared hosting or a powerful VDS in our Accra hub, here is how to manage your records.
1. What are Nameservers?
Nameservers tell the internet where your website and emails are located.
- Standard Hosting: Use our default CoLi Link nameservers (e.g.,
ns1.coliserver.com and ns2.coliserver.com).
- External VPS/VDS: If you are using a custom control panel (like cPanel or CyberPanel) on your VDS, you may want to set up Custom Nameservers (e.g.,
ns1.yourbrand.com).
2. How to Change Nameservers
- Log in to your CoLi Link Dashboard.
- Navigate to Domains > My Domains.
- Click on the wrench icon (Manage) next to your domain.
- Select Nameservers from the sidebar.
- Choose "Use custom nameservers" and enter the values provided for your server.
- Click Change Nameservers.
3. Managing DNS Records (A, MX, CNAME)
If you want to keep your domain at CoLi Link but point specific services elsewhere, use our DNS Management tool:
- A Record: Points your domain to your server's IP address (e.g.,
102.x.x.x).
- MX Record: Directs your emails to a provider like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
- CNAME: Used for subdomains like
blog.yourcompany.gh.
- TXT Record: Used for security verification (SPF, DKIM) to prevent your emails from going to spam.
Important: DNS Propagation
When you change DNS settings, it takes time for the "news" to spread across the global internet. This is called Propagation.
- Local Traffic (Ghana/Nigeria/SA): Thanks to our regional peering, you may see changes in as little as 30 minutes.
- Global Traffic: It can take up to 24–48 hours for everyone in the world to see the update.
Pro-Tip: Use a tool like whatsmydns.net to track your domain's propagation across different countries in real-time!
Thank you for your feedback.
Sorry about that :( We'll work to make it better.
