How to Transfer Your Existing Domains to CoLi Link
Ready to manage all your digital assets under one roof? Moving your domain to CoLi Link is a straightforward process. By transferring to us, you benefit from our localized support in Accra, simplified billing via MoMo, and seamless integration with our VDS/VPS services.
Before You Begin (The Pre-Transfer Checklist)
To ensure a smooth transfer, check the following at your current registrar:
- Unlock the Domain: Ensure the domain status is set to "Unlocked."
- Disable WHOIS Privacy: Turn off any "Privacy Protection" services so we can verify ownership.
- Check Domain Age: ICANN rules state a domain must be at least 60 days old before it can be transferred.
- Access to Admin Email: You must have access to the email address listed on the domain’s WHOIS record to approve the transfer.
Step-by-Step Transfer Process
1. Get Your EPP/Auth Code
Login to your current provider and request your EPP Code (also called an Authorization Code). This is a unique "key" that allows us to move your domain.
2. Place Your Order on CoLi Link
Go to our Domain Transfer Page and enter your domain name. Select the "Transfer" option and enter the EPP Code when prompted.
3. Approve the Transfer
The registry will send an email to the Administrative Contact of the domain. You must click the confirmation link in that email to authorize the move.
4. Wait for Completion
- Global Domains (.com, .net, .org): Standard transfers typically take 5–7 days.
- The "Fast-Track" Trick: You don't always have to wait! Once you initiate the transfer, log in to your old registrar's dashboard. Many providers (like GoDaddy or Namecheap) have a "Pending Transfers" section where you can click "Approve Now." Doing this can complete the transfer in as little as 2–5 hours.
- Regional Domains (.co.za, .ng): These are often faster and usually complete within 24 hours once the approval ticket is clicked.
- Ghanaian Domains (.gh): These may require a manual "tag" change or registry approval. Our Accra-based team handles these daily and can assist with the move.
Important Note on Billing
When you transfer a domain, most registries require a 1-year renewal as part of the process. This year will be added to your current expiration date, so you don't lose any time you’ve already paid for!
